After I broke my ankle in Cades Cove last month, I started seeking out ADA accessible waterfalls near me. And by near, I mean within an hour-and-a-half. Two of these I visited recently, and one I’ve visited often enough to already know it’s the best. All of them are practically the same distance from Knoxville.
#3 Cumberland Falls
Also known as the Niagara of the South, Cumberland Falls, located near Corbin, Kentucky in Daniel Boone National Forest, is one of the easiest to access. The parking lot has several handicap spaces and the lot is right by the top of the waterfall making it a short walk to the overlook. The stairs can prevent you from accessing the lower part of the falls, unfortunately.

#2 Bald River Falls

Bald River Falls is located south of Knoxville in Cherokee National Forest. The parking area is a bit loose as there are no designated spots, but there is plenty of space and the walk very short walk to the waterfall makes up for that. You will see the waterfall as you pull in and out.

#1 Fall Creek Falls
Fall Creek Falls is one of the most accessible and stunning waterfalls of the eastern United States. At 256 feet tall, it is very impressive in the spring after a good rain. The parking lot has several handicap spots and a walkway leads right to an amazing overlook. Getting to the base is a strenuous hike and would not be recommended if you are mobility impaired.

There are several more in the area. I did not include the Smokies because that’s a list in itself. The main photo is of one that did not make the list, Cummins Falls. While they have an accessible overlook, getting to it is very rough. I hope you enjoy this list and offer suggestions.
