I took a month off from work in July of this year and travelled a lot of the country and some of Canada. On my return, I was going to spend a night at Indiana Dunes National Park by Lake Michigan.
It’s partially my fault, because I believe I had to have misread the amenities. But when I got there, the bathrooms were “closed for the season”. But it was July. That made no sense. They had maybe three portapoties, but there was shit on the lid when I went into one. I am not kidding. The seat was down and there was an entire human turd on it. They had a cleaning schedule posted on it. And it was three days before it was due to be cleaned.
So then I hiked about a mile to my campsite. And I know there’s mosquitoes, but this was ridiculous. I can’t see myself setting up camp and walking a mile to take a shit in a very unsanitary place when I could just dig a hole and do it near my campsite. That was my problem with it. You weren’t allowed to do that. I didn’t set up camp and left and they refunded me later.
Aside from the nuclear plant, it seems beautiful, but not my cup of tea — not my style. I would not recommend this place for camping.
